I haven't succeeded YET: I'm growing!

The use of  'yet' makes all the difference between feeling that you are succeeding or feeling that you are failing.

It may seems a bit simple to have such an effect, but it does. It is a change of perspective.
When you change perspective you change the way you feel and think about a situation and automatically the situation itself changes.

"Things don't change. You change your way of looking, that's all."
Carlos Castaneda

Let's look at the practicle application of 'yet'.

When you struggle with a situation because you don't manage to change it as quickly and effectively as you would like, you get demoralised and often talk about the situation with statements as:

It doesn't work
I'm not managing
I don't know what to do

We all do that at some point, unfortunately, but please be aware that the way our brain reacts to you using such statements, is by believing you and recording the information the way you state it.
This is what you could expect going on in your head:
'So it is a fact, it doesn't work, we are not managing and is becoming late while we don't know what to do'.

With this info recorded in your brain, the expectation can only be that the situation will stay as it is now or that you will probably fail without some help coming from outside your head.

Now immagine to be in the same situation of difficulty and to change your statement just by adding a YET at the end:

It doesn't work yet
I'm not managing yet
I don't know what to do yet

The information that your brain is gathering now, suggest that you are succeeding, that you are working hard on making it work, that you are building experience and that you  are getting there. When you believe that, then your batteries are recharged and you work with motivation and pleasure knowing it's going to be ok.

The outcome of your actions is going to be influence by the way you look at the situation.

Notice that the only thing that changed between the first and the second option, is the way you  look at things, the way you approach the  situation, all the rest is exactly the same.
I also want to point out that when you add 'yet' to the statement you change it completely and still you are not lying.
'It doesn't work' is as true as 'It doesn't work yet'. This is to say that you are not fooling yourself by using 'yet', you are instead opening up to a wider perspective, to the possibilities and to the potential that you maybe don't see yet.

I would love to hear your experiences with the power of yet, please share then in the comment below.

I also add a nice TEDtalk about the power of yet, if you want to hear more about the topic.
