I wrote three episodes about overcoming limitations, fear and negative thinking, it is time for a different taste. This is about desires, plans, ambitions, dreams. I suggest that you run through the wheel of life and make an inventory of all that you desire, envision and long for in each of the area of the wheel.

Working at our personal development and activating our energy to grow, expand and create, inevitably comes with resistances of different kind. I already wrote about the inner critic and how to change the relationship we have with this part of ourselves.
Here I would like to share another really gentle and effective way to work with resistance. Specifically when we notice our resistances in the form of believes, recurring thoughts or convictions. The work of Byron Katie is extremely simple and in its simplicity so deep and impactful. It is all about answering four simple questions: Even if it will not be an immediate transformation, it is important that the decision to eventually make the transformation is taken with a certain amount of energy.
What the discovery of the inner critic has brought to light is the realization that we can live in a world ruled by doubts and fears. In this inner critic dominated world we can live a life of self-imposed limitations geared to make us feel safe, secure and, protected. Someone would call this a reptile mindset because dominated by the working of the reptilian brain. Let’s be honest, fear, doubts probably accompanied by inner insecurity and inner criticism are pretty much inevitable. For this reason it is not useful to pretend they are not there, on the contrary, it is important to look them in the eyes. If we pretend they are not there we may end up investing so much energy in keeping them at bay, that pursuing our goals, projects and dreams will seem an unrealistic and tiring pursue. We won’t have any energy left to do what we really want to do. Fill in the wheel of life and find out how you are doing right now. Make a picture of yourself in the here and now.
The reason this is all so important, and believe me it is, is mainly because you are important. I will explain you later in more details what I mean, for now I will start by giving you something to reflect on.
Whatever you believe is the force behind the creation of everything, from galaxies to human beings, why do you believe that force wanted you to be born and live to do all that you have already been doing? Stay on that for a while. Don’t try to find an answer as some questions, the best questions, are meant to activate you, to take you somewhere new and expansive inside of yourself. Let this question take you to that new and expansive place and notice what happens. (You may also want to write down the reflections that will come up for you as they may be quite insightful) |
