Working at our personal development and activating our energy to grow, expand and create, inevitably comes with resistances of different kind. I already wrote about the inner critic and how to change the relationship we have with this part of ourselves. Here I would like to share another really gentle and effective way to work with resistance. Specifically when we notice our resistances in the form of believes, recurring thoughts or convictions. The work of Byron Katie is extremely simple and in its simplicity so deep and impactful. It is all about answering four simple questions: 1. Is it true? 2. Can you absolutely know that it’s true? 3. How do you react when you believe that thought? 4. Who would you be without that thought? Imagine wanting to lose weight and coming to the realization that ‘I will never manage, my body doesn’t change whatever I do’. Or maybe you are in a relationship that you are trying to fix and you come to think ‘he/she will never change, I am done with the relationship’. Another example is if you are in a work environment and you don’t succeed to achieve what you desire and you start to reckon ‘I am not good enough’. The work of Byron Katie challenges you to test your believes with the four questions. Not in a hurry, don't answer just to answer, but really feel the answer that emerges from you. Thoughts: - I don’t want to work as a teacher anymore; - My spouse doesn't love me; - I am too old to change job; 1- Is it true that you don’t want to do work as a teacher anymore? If you relax into this question you will notice that more information emerges from inside of yourself. 2- Can you absolutely know that is true that you really don’t want to work as a teacher anymore? This second powerful question challenges you to use the information that emerged in your and to consider your affirmation, your intention and your true feelings. Here you really start to become present to whatever is going on inside of you. 3- How do you react when you believe that you don’t want to work as a teacher anymore? Whatever we thing it has an effect on us. Here you notice the effect that this specific belief has produced in you. By becoming aware you can make new choices, free choices. 4- Who would you be without that thought that you don’t want to work as a teacher anymore? Considering to hold on to this belief or let it go it is important to consider how it would be like without that belief. You may be surprise by what comes up here. Try this few time with your favorite beliefs or recurring thoughts. Experience the awareness and the liberation of your mind and all that comes with it. Lara Briozzo
