Do dreams have meanings? Does the meaning of a dream can be applied to more people dreaming the same thing? What a consider a scientifically proofed fact about dreams is that there are few different ways to look, interpreter and if you want use dreams. Some are more neuroscience based other more psychology base then there is the spiritual influence in the interpretation of dreams. This that you read here is only may way based on my personal experience and on the experience of my clients. Do dreams have meanings? Yes, dreams have meanings. Dreams are kind of message from your unconscious that you get every night and sometimes you remember (as if those that you remember are messages that came with the priority mail). This doesn’t mean that you have to do something with all the messages/dreams you get. It would be like trying to read all newspapers coming out every day, you wouldn’t manage to do much more than that during the all day. I believe that there is a free will element in how we go about using dreams: how much time we invest in working with a dream and how often. And this can variate per period and per dreams. I recently came out of a 2 years period where I could never remember a dream. Before that I had a period of remembering more than one dream per night sometimes. This can be also see as a communication with your psyche. No dreams remembered could mean that I’m not in a place where I can work with my dreams for various reason or it could mean that I am already doing so much other work on myself than the psyche has nothing major that needs addressing beside that. Your personal situation, your intuition and asking yourself some questions can help you clarify what case applies to you. Some believe you dream about what happens during your day, what you worry about, what you are afraid of or what you dread of the time ahead of you. Well, part of this is actually true in my opinion. Our life makes definitely part of the content of our dreams. What emotionally happens in our daily life has an effect on us also on our unconscious psychic life and could easily become part of a dream. Where I differ from people that simply believe dreams are about what happens during your day or the film you have seen recently, is that while they believe this is an argument to discard dreams and their possible meaning, I believe this is precisely why dreams are worth working with and understanding. Working on dreams you can come to a deeper layer inside yourself, to the deeper meaning for you of what happens in your daily life. Does the meaning of a dream can be applied to more people dreaming the same thing? This is a tricky one. I personally don’t believe in symbols with set meaning. Often a specific object, element, animal or situation has both a symbolic meaning and a personal meaning. For example, water in dreams is often associated with emotions. Depending on the amount of water in de dream and the quality of the water, you could assign a symbolic meaning to few possible scenarios. However your personal experience with water has also to be taken into account: if you can swim or not, if you have a history of trauma in water or not if you are a surfer or have never been by a large body of water, are information that create a personal meaning for the symbol water. So if multiple people dream of a big wave 10 meters high, for each person the message that the unconscious is sending them via the dream, may have a really different meaning depending on how the symbolic meaning of water intertwin with the personal meaning of water and high waves have to produce as many different interpretations as people that have dreamt.
