These are some more questions I often get asked about dreams. In a following blog I will explain more in depth my vision about dreams and their interpretation, for now I just want to give an answer aimed to that even the most unexperienced in working with dreams can have something to chew on. What if you dream recurrently the same dream?
The simplest answer to this is: if you get the same message over and over again in your dreams, there may be something you still have to see, understand, realize with regards with that message. I remember someone telling me about this dream he was having about twice a week, always the same: in a working situation there were huge safety issues, he was doing his best and nothing seemed to be enough. He kept experiencing this disturbing dreams until he took decision regarding his work that moved him metaphorically into a more ‘safe’ workplace . This is an example of how a recurrent dream can work. What to do if you have a recurring dream? I would surely advise to take these steps: 1- Write the dream down; 2- Try to understand what the dream is really about; 3- Ask yourself what is really triggering you in that dream; 4- Reflect on why is that triggering you. This is how to interpreter any dream in a nutshell. It could be that this process doesn’t come easy, that you struggle to find a clear answer to all the points and if this is the case, it is ok. It is actually much more important asking the questions that finding immediately the answers. When you ask yourself good questions, you activate something in your psyche, a kind of a development assignment, and that will keep moving your energy in the direction of the answer you are looking to find. Even just noticing that you have a recurring dream, without knowing anything about its possible meaning, it is already a step towards understanding the dream. What I mean is that only when you remember dreams and you can notice they are recurrent you can start focusing on what they could be telling you. If you realize how many people don’t remember dreams, only then you realize how further down the line you already are just by remembering the dream. Why some people don’t remember dreams? I believe it is a matter of attention. Majority of dreams tend to fade really quickly after waking up. If your attention is not focused on what you have dreamed by waking up, it is quite likely that you will forget the dream so quickly that it would feel like you are hadn’t remembered anything about your dream. This theory is developed by listening many people over the years having this kind of development in their experience: The first time we talked about dreams: I share my dreams and what I understand in them, the other is fascinated, would like to be able to do the same, but reports not being able to remember dreams; For a while: They avoid the topic of dreams al together; Until one day they tell me: ‘Last night I dreamt ….’, like it was the most normal thing of the world. What can be done to remember dreams? A clear intention of wanting to remember dreams is the most important. There are people suggesting to set an alarm at 3-4 am to be waken up in the middle of a dream and write it down, however, that seems to me quite an unnecessary disturbance in your night rest that is important for your overall wellbeing. Just waking up and having a dream journal by your bed side to remember you to write down what you dreamt, could be enough. Furthermore it is important to respect things as they are. Dreams are messages from your unconscious to you, it is a really intimate process, if it goes in a certain way there is probably a reason, let’s honour that and don’t put ourselves under unnecessary pressure. Let’s be loving towards ourselves and honour what is, even is that is the absence of memories about the dreams. The ultimate goal is to be in peace with yourself after all, isn’t it?
